Left Behind tells the powerful story of mothers uniting to create the first public dyslexic school in New York City, the largest school district in the US. Dyslexia affects 1 in 5 children, yet 48 percent of incarcerated individuals are dyslexic. Many families lack access to testing and support. In NYC, 200,000 children are left without resources. Kareem Weaver, NAACP Education Committee leader, calls this a civil rights issue. Dyslexia is not a barrier to success – 35 percent of entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and musicians are dyslexic. This film highlights lost potential and a fight for education equality.
