Last Men in Aleppo

.

In Aleppo, nearing collapse after years of war, the White Helmets face harrowing choices daily. Amid the city’s last days, these volunteers confront death, risking their lives in devastated buildings to find survivors. Founders Khalid, Subhi, and Mahmoud, choose to stay, determined to rescue others despite the ongoing siege that has claimed countless lives, including children. Each day presents a conflict: continue their perilous mission or flee to protect their families? This film, in collaboration with the Aleppo Media Center, captures the stark reality of these heroes against a backdrop of international indifference.

[It] give(s) chilling context to the weight of how long these conflicts have raged.
    Steve Greene
  • Austin Chronicle
Overall, the "you are there" footage lends the film a more journalistic than artistic tone, yet the emotional effect is intimate and unforgettably gripping.
    Marjorie Baumgarten
  • Los Angeles Times
A tightly focused, on-the-ground account of three men who serve in the White Helmets.

  • Washington Post
While "Last Men in Aleppo" could stand a trim here and there, it mostly uses its length to good and heart-rending effect ...
    Michael O'Sullivan
  • New York Magazine/Vulture
A cool, objective film critic could complain that Last Men in Aleppo becomes repetitious, but it's that repetition that eats into your mind and makes objectivity foolish.
