SYNOPSIS
ADHD is one of the most commonly diagnosed-and widely misunderstood-neurological conditions in the world today, affecting nearly 10% of kids and a rising number of adults. But what if having an ADHD brain is actually an asset? A growing number of innovators, entrepreneurs, CEO’s, Olympic athletes, and award-winning artists have recently disclosed that their ADHD, managed effectively, has played a vital role in their success. The Disruptors hears from many of those game-changing people about their ADHD, and takes an immersive look at our approach to ADHD that debunks the most harmful myths, and intimately takes viewers inside a number of families as they navigate the challenges – and the surprising triumphs – of living with ADHD.
Unlocking ADHD (UA) is a charity and social service agency that celebrates its 3rd anniversary this ADHD Awareness Month! UA’s mission is to empower ADHDers and their families to live life to the fullest.
Many ADHDers struggle with symptoms that impair relationships and cause underperformance in school, work and life, leading to lost potential. UA’s goal is to give hope and bridge the gaps in information, access and management of ADHD through its four pillars:
– Awareness
– Accessibility
– Achievement
– Advocacy
Our Understanding Needs Report of 596 respondents shows grim data:
– About 79% of ADHD families report negative impact on their relationships
– Almost 70% of ADHD students struggle to progress in school
– Approximately 40% of adult ADHDers have challenges holding on to a job.
– 88% of adults and 73% of children have one or more conditions in addition to ADHD, with the most common being mental health issues (e.g. anxiety and depression) or a special education need challenge (e.g. dyslexia and autism spectrum disorder)
We need your support to grow our full-time team and develop more resources to equip the ADHD community. Thank you for partnering with us to empower ADHDers and their families to thrive!
