Atanas, a Bulgarian computer engineer, claims to have hacked love. Now married, he undertakes the challenge to find love for his shy and lonely fellow engineers by sharing the scientific formula he developed to find the perfect wife. Atanas uses these engineers as his guinea pigs; he lectures them on his ideas and offers remote guidance during their dates so that they may test his theories. Are there scientific rules to attraction, sex and love? And if there are, do we really want to know them?
I studied five years of my life to become an engineer. When you study engineering there are not many girls around, so chatting via IRC and ICQ ended up being the best way to communicate with them.
Years later I met Atanas, the central character in Love & Engineering. He was just left by a woman that he believed was the love of his life.
The following two years Atanas concentrated on his work in Tampere University as a lab scientist and he forgot about women. But then it hit him! Atanas was 32 years old and without a relationship or family. He then started to research how to attract women, how to behave around them, what to say to them and most importantly, how to make them desire you. As a true scientist Atanas started to develop a perfect formula based on his own research and the books he had read.
Two months later Atanas was married, and a year later they had their first baby. Being a true engineer and scientist, Atanas continued to research and develop his ideas about the Theory of Love.
Atanas’s story and my own experiences as a divorced engineer were the main motives behind the making of this film.
