Matter Out of Place

.

Waste covers shores, mountains, ocean floors, and deep earth. MATTER OUT OF PLACE describes objects where they don’t belong—a reality Nikolaus Geyrhalter captures in his film. Through meticulously composed imagery, he traces waste across the globe: from Swiss mountain peaks to the coasts of Greece and Albania, from an Austrian incinerator to Nepal, the Maldives, and Nevada’s deserts. MATTER OUT OF PLACE reveals the endless human struggle to manage the refuse surrounding us—collecting, shredding, burning, and burying it—a Sisyphean task in an ever-growing global waste crisis.
