The Life Ahead of Us: Another Face of Immigration

.

In the 60s and 70s, the booming French economy created a labor shortage, ending the golden era of coal mines. Former officer Félix Mora was sent to Morocco to recruit over 80,000 men for the French mines. For Mora, they represented a low-cost workforce willing to accept meager salaries and dangerous conditions, while young Moroccans saw a chance for a better future. After the mines closed, most settled in France, starting families and giving birth to over 600,000 French citizens across two generations. Through rare testimonies, this film portrays this unique immigration story, emphasizing the complexities and challenges faced by these immigrants and moving beyond prejudicial identity discourse.
