Some 350,000 volunteers came to work in Israel’s Kibbutzim during the second half of the 20th Century. Children of the ‘60s generation found in the Kibbutz everything they dreamed about: sun, communal life, a little sense of danger. The Kibbutzim enjoyed the volunteers’ youthful presence as well as the supply of free labor. Was it a win-win situation? The eventual decline of the volunteers movement is a tale of many conflicts: from politics to religion, cultural clashes and personal heartbreaks.
